EL PASO GHOST TOURS | AFTER DARK COLLECTION 2026–2027

A century of secrets. A basement filled with mysteries. And a hotel whose darkest chapter brought its doors to a close.

Step into the shadows of downtown El Paso with the Gateway Hotel edition of our After Dark collection.

Standing at 104 South Stanton Street, the historic Gateway Hotel began its life in 1903 as the Trust Building, designed by architect Isaac S. Taylor.

In 1927–1928, banker Charles Bassett commissioned the architectural firm Trost & Trost to transform the building into a 104-room hotel. It became the first property in the Gateway Hotel chain and remained a downtown landmark for generations.

But behind its historic exterior, the Gateway developed a reputation for much more than hospitality.

The Haunted Basement: The hotel's basement was once an actual El Paso Ghost Tours investigation location, where our guests explored its mysterious atmosphere and reported paranormal activity firsthand.

Hollywood Connections: The building appeared in the 1972 crime thriller The Getaway, starring Steve McQueen, and the 2004 basketball drama Glory Road.

The Troubled Years: Over the decades, the property experienced periods of deterioration, legal difficulties, and serious safety concerns.

The Final Shutdown: In September 2024, the Gateway Hotel was shut down amid extensive law-enforcement investigations, reports of criminal activity associated with Tren de Aragua, and significant safety and building-code violations. The closure also brought our paranormal investigations at the property to an end.

In October 2024, the owners reached a settlement with El Paso County to permanently cease operating under the Gateway Hotel name. The property was subsequently sold, with plans announced for redevelopment.

Today, the Gateway's future may be changing, but its extraordinary history and haunting reputation remain part of El Paso's story.

This exclusive After Dark design captures the actual Gateway Hotel through atmospheric historical imagery, distressed architectural details, and a darker interpretation of the building's remarkable past.

Design features:

  • El Paso Ghost Tours emblem on the front left chest.

  • Haunted Gateway Hotel historical artwork on the back.

  • Vintage architectural and Hollywood-inspired imagery.

  • Dark, distressed styling inspired by El Paso's haunted downtown.

  • Part of the 2026–2027 After Dark collection.

Some guests checked out. Some stories never left. And some doors closed forever.
