EL PASO GHOST TOURS | AFTER DARK COLLECTION 2026–2027

A notorious bank robber. A legendary novelist. A century of secrets. And a basement where the past may never rest.

Step into the shadows of downtown El Paso with the Gardner Hotel & Hostel edition of our After Dark collection.

Located at 311 East Franklin Avenue, the Gardner opened on May 11, 1922, and remains El Paso's oldest continuously operating hotel. Founded by Preston E. Gardner, this historic landmark has welcomed outlaws, writers, filmmakers, and perhaps a few guests who never truly checked out.

Public Enemy No. 1: On January 9, 1934, notorious bank robber John Dillinger registered under the alias John D. Ball and stayed in Room 221, which still exists today.

A Literary Legend: Acclaimed novelist Cormac McCarthy lived and wrote at the Gardner during his years in El Paso, adding another remarkable chapter to the hotel's history.

Hollywood History: In 2004, scenes from Disney's Glory Road, celebrating the historic 1966 Texas Western College basketball team, were filmed inside the Gardner.

The Historic Lobby: Vintage typewriters, antique furnishings, an old telephone switchboard, and Dillinger memorabilia transport visitors back to another era.

Bill, the Phantom Clerk: Local paranormal legends describe a former hotel employee whose presence is reportedly encountered in the basement and hallways.

The Candy Lady: Another mysterious figure said to wander the hotel's historic corridors.

Unexplained Encounters: Guests and investigators have reported phantom noises, unusual disturbances, and electronic devices seemingly operating on their own.

Where Our Tours End: The Gardner is more than another historic location for El Paso Ghost Tours. Our downtown walking tours conclude in the hotel's basement, where guests can participate in a paranormal investigation using ghost-hunting equipment.

This exclusive After Dark design features the Gardner's historic architecture, John Dillinger's Room 221, Cormac McCarthy, Hollywood history, and the paranormal legends surrounding this extraordinary landmark.

Design features:
